Family dentist in East Kilbride
What to do, and how to reach us, in a dental emergency.

If you are experiencing unusual or excessive bleeding, trauma or swelling, seek help immediately.
During working hours, call us and we will do everything we can to see you as soon as possible. Out of hours, call the NHS on 111 for advice.
Common urgent problems include toothache, lost fillings or crowns and denture problems; please phone on the day for availability and we will do our best to see you as soon as possible.

Keep your mouth clean by rinsing with warm water, use a cold compress if swollen, take paracetamol or ibuprofen for pain, never put aspirin directly on the gum, and call us to book an emergency appointment.
Hold the tooth by the crown, rinse it without scrubbing, and try to put it back in place facing the right way, biting on a clean towel to hold it there - doing this within five minutes greatly increases the chance of survival. If you can't reinsert it, store it in milk or saliva.
Don't put the tooth back in its socket as this could damage the permanent tooth underneath. Apply gentle pressure with gauze or muslin to stop bleeding, and give paracetamol or ibuprofen for pain, never aspirin directly on the gums.
Ring us during opening hours and we'll see you as soon as possible to decide on the best course of action, which could include filing the tooth smooth, rebuilding it, or removing it.
If you can't remove the object with dental floss, contact us immediately; never use anything sharp, as you risk hurting your gums or damaging the tooth enamel.
If a wire has come loose, try pushing it into a more comfortable position with the rubber end of a pencil, or cover it with dental wax, cotton or gauze until you can reach us. Never cut the wire.
